Whether your spouse is new to the military or about to retire, you are bound to have questions.

This lifestyle is different than any other. It will always be changing and with so many moving parts it can be difficult to keep everything straight! Thankfully, there are tons of resources to aid service members and their families.

We’ve put together a list of five basic resources all military spouses should be utilizing to help make this journey a little easier.

 

Military OneSource

Visit their website or give them a call at 1-800-342-9647 for an endless list pertaining to all things military. Military OneSource can assist you with:

• counseling
• tax help
• PCS
• education information
• Tricare

And it doesn’t stop there. They have helpful information for all phases of military families. Check out their information for families new to this lifestyle or those who are about to transition. No matter what phase you are in Military OneSource can help!

 

Family Support Centers

Depending on what branch your spouse is a part of, this may be called a variety of things. Whether its Fleet & Family Services or Family Readiness, you should know who they are and what they have to offer.

Similar to Military OneSource, your family support center serves as an information hub to military families. They:

• plan events
• host job fairs
• offer counseling
• host classes weekly

Classes offered usually include:

• resume building
• new mom support groups
• marriage communication

Find your base’s family support center and give them a call to see what they have to offer!

 

Facebook

If you aren’t a part of your local military spouse Facebook group, you are likely missing out on a lot of great information! This is a great way to make friends, get referrals to local businesses, find a place to live, and more.

Your base probably has a Facebook page run by the Public Affairs office. The recreation center may have a Facebook page where they post information about family events, rentals, vacations and more.

Check out The Major Group’s Facebook for a variety of information both fun and helpful to military spouses! Whether you are looking for a parenting group, coupon club, or toddler play date group, Facebook will be a great resource for military spouses.

 

Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MyCAA)

MyCAA is a $4,000 grant for military spouses to get career training. The grant can be used towards a MyCAA-approved certification, license, or associate’s program.

Spouses of active duty service members (or reservists on Title 10 orders) ranked E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2, and O-1 to O-2 in the Navy, Marine Corps, Army and Air Force are eligible for the grant.

The Major Group works with two schools to offer over 80 MyCAA approved certification programs. Our programs are 100% online, at your own pace, take about 3-6 months to complete and include at least one national certification exam.

Some of our medical programs even include a clinical externship! For eligible military spouses, our programs are no cost to you. Many military spouses are not aware they have education benefits. Take advantage of this great resource while you can!

 

Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP)

A very valuable resource for the career focused military spouse. It isn’t the first and won’t be the last time we will refer military spouses to MSEP.

If you don’t already have a profile created, visit the website and see what they have to offer. You can search for jobs, get resume templates and much more. We are a proud MSEP partner, along with hundreds of other companies who hire military spouses. We understand it can be difficult to find employers that are optimistic about hiring military spouses. MSEP has a list of companies that want to hire you!
