Career Talk Blog | November is Military Family Month — Let’s Celebrate!
Our troops protect our country every minute of every day, and the sacrifices they make to protect American families are endless. November will always be a month we traditionally reflect on the people and things in our lives that are important and give thanks.
On October 29th, President Obama proclaimed November as Military Family Month.
In addition to Thanksgiving this month, The Major Group and Americans around the world will be giving thanks to military families for the important role they play in supporting our troops.
The sacrifices that spouses, children, parents, siblings and other family members make to support their service members easily go unrecognized. Families endure separations and long deployments with uncertainty when their loved on will return. Military spouses put their careers on hold to move across the country while their spouse serves. Military families are driven by their high level of patriotism and provide support to troops that encourage them to keep moving forward with their missions.
The support doesn’t stop when service members come home or retire. The happiness and excitement that comes along with homecomings often brings stress and emotional battles for troops. Standing by a veteran can be challenging but family members encourage them along the way as they transition to civilian life.
The National Military Family Association offers many simple ways you can show your support for military families this month. Next time you see a military child, give them a high-five and let them know how proud you are of them! Fly an American flag on your porch or simply share a post on social media to show your support. If you’re an employer, hire vets and military spouses and recognize the strengths they can bring to your organization. Something small will go a long way this month to show military family members you care!
The Major Group provides military spouses career-training support year round. This month, we’ve partnered with the National Military Family Association to offer a scholarship that all active duty spouses are eligible to apply for! We’re fortunate we are able to provide these opportunities for military spouses. Having the resources to get back to work in a portable career field allows spouses the ability to financially contribute to their family and feel fulfilled with a rewarding career.
America is the country it is today because of our troops and their family members who have sacrificed to support our nation. The strength and courage they demonstrate every day is admirable and deserves recognition year round. Let military families know you stand behind them this month by saying thanks and showing your appreciation!
