Career Talk Blog | Summertime Means PCS Moves for Military Families
Sunshine, pools, BBQ, and beaches are on everyone’s mind this time of year. As school ends, summer will be in full swing and it will be over before we know it.
Vacations and time at the local water parks will be a top priority for many families this summer. Many will be grilling out, spending time on the boat, and enjoying firework displays.
Summertime also means PCS season is in full swing.
And for those military families moving to a new duty station, enjoying the rest of summer may be challenging in a new town.
For families who recently completed a PCS move, military bases will be hosting a variety of upcoming summer events.
These events will provide opportunities to meet other military spouses and families who have been in the area for a while. They will provide you with a wealth of information, including the “must do” summer activities in your town. This will also help military spouses begin networking themselves and making new friends.
Soon, parents will be focusing on the annual back-to-school preparation.
This time of the year can provide even more stress for military families who just moved. By attending a summer event at your local base, families can learn about the surrounding schools from others who have been through the same situation. We know attending a new school can be scary for children. Connecting with other local military families means your kids can play with others and meet new friends before they go back to school.
Most importantly, learn about all of the resources available to your family at a summer event on base.
Childcare, employment, medical and education information along with much more will all be provided by military family advocates at these events. If you have just moved or have been at your duty station for a couple of years, you are bound to learn something new this summer at your base.
Take the remaining summer months to accomplish things with your family that you have been waiting to do.
We encourage military spouses to accomplish goals that have been on their minds as well. Interested in going back to work in the fall or winter? In 3-6 months, military spouses are able to get the training they need to find portable careers. For eligible spouses, utilizing your MyCAA grant this summer means you can get the education you’ve been waiting for at no cost to you.
