Each year, U.S. News and World Report publishes a list of the best jobs, using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). When they are ranking the top occupations, they start with a list of jobs that have the highest number of projected openings from 2016 to 2026. Then they look at a few more things, including:

  • Median Salary
  • Employment Rate
  • 10-year growth volume
  • 10-year growth percentage
  • Future job prospects
  • Stress level
  • Work-life balance

This list includes most of the things you should consider when deciding upon a career or a change in career. While each one of us has his or her own requirements for a job, most of our “job” needs are addressed by the seven things above.

So, how do the rapidly-growing jobs below compare to the “best” job you’re searching for? Take a look, and then take note that The Major Group has the programs you need to prepare yourself for a strong, new career.

Healthcare jobs top the list, and the industry as a whole is growing by 18% across the board. There are over 2.4 million new jobs expected by 2026, and The Major Group has many healthcare programs available.

1 • Massage Therapist

Massage Therapist is ranked #43 in this report, and it is ranked #5 on the list of best healthcare support jobs. The BLS predicts almost 40,000 new jobs by 2026, with an average salary of just under $40,000. Upon completion of the six-month program, you could be ready to start your next career!

2 • Healthcare Support

Several jobs fall within the medical records area, which is another top healthcare support job, ranked at #68 on the Top 100 list. The programs offered by The Major Group include Electronic Healthcare Record Management, Medical Administrative Assistant, and Medical Billing & Coding. Program completion timelines range from four to six months.

3 • Dental Industry

The dental industry is also rapidly growing; the #2 job on this list is a dentist. Dental offices need lots of supporting players, including dental assistants, which is ranked #98 on this list. The dental assisting program lasts six months and can have you working in no time.

Another rapidly growing area is in business, which saw several top jobs on the list:

4 • Mathematics

Statistics, math, and accounting are all very highly skilled positions, and they are essential in successful businesses. The Business Math Specialist, which shares some of the same responsibilities as a mathematician, is a great option. Mathematicians are ranked #25 on the Top 100 Jobs list.

5 • Accounting Industry

Accounting professionals are always sought after, primarily by military-spouse and veteran business-owners. Accountant is ranked the #36 top job this year, and there is a predicted 10% growth in this field by 2026. Other jobs in the industry include Bookkeeping and QuickBooks professionals, and these often offer opportunities for remote workers.

6 • Human Resources

A Human Resources professional is another top job, particularly for military spouses. Can you imagine the impact you could make on military and veteran unemployment by joining this field? The Human Resources industry is ranked #54 and is also expected to add about 40,000 jobs in the next eight years.

We encourage you to consider a job’s prospective growth when looking at career options. We know that money isn’t everything, but having to find a job each time you move is hard enough without also having to struggle with a declining job market. You may be able to improve your prospects and your job outlook with some education and/or certification. Good luck and we hope that one of these top jobs is for you!
